Every room here is built around one idea: warm cedar, deep quiet, and a bed you will not want to leave. Our 126 guest rooms come with blackout drapes, a rainfall shower and a desk that is actually large enough to work at. Fourteen Cedar Suites add a separate sitting room, a soaker tub and a west-facing window that catches the last of the Alberta light.
Parking is free, the front desk never closes, and the casino floor is a two-minute walk from your door. Rates move with the calendar, so the fastest way to get the right room at the right price is to pick up the phone.
Winter Cedar sits on Argyll Road in south Edmonton — close enough to downtown for a nine o’clock meeting, far enough out that you can hear the wind move through the trees behind the parking lot. Under one roof you will find a hotel, a kitchen, a bar, three event rooms and a licensed casino floor. Arrive for a night; most people end up staying the weekend.

The casino at Winter Cedar has been part of this building since our gaming licence was granted in 2003, and it is still the reason most guests come back. Three hundred and forty slots, ten live tables, a dedicated poker room and a lounge that keeps pouring long after the kitchen has closed. Hotel guests walk down from their floor — no cab, no coat, no cover charge, no minimum.
Eighteen and over, valid photo identification at the door, and a floor team who would genuinely rather teach you a game than take your money quickly.
Breakfast from six, last order at midnight. Alberta beef, lake trout off the Friday truck, a short and serious wine list, and a bar that pours everything this province distills. Room service runs until one in the morning, because the casino does not keep office hours and neither do we.
Winter Cedar opened in 1978 as an eleven-room motel at the edge of Argyll Road, run by two people who could not agree on a name and settled on the trees out back.
The dining room followed in 1986. The first proper hotel wing went up in 1994, and by 2002 the property had grown into something the highway signs finally had room for.
In 2003 Winter Cedar was licensed as a gaming venue under Alberta law, and the casino floor opened the following spring — a single room with twelve tables and a great deal of optimism. It has not stopped growing since.
A full rebuild in 2015 gave us the atrium, the third event room and the Cedar Suites. The 2022 renovation took every guest room back to the studs and put it back together properly.
Today Winter Cedar is 126 rooms, three event spaces, one kitchen, one bar and one casino floor — still on the same corner, still run by people who answer the phone themselves.

Winter Cedar Hotel & Casino handles personal information under Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), SA 2003, c P-6.5 — the 2003 statute that governs private-sector privacy in this province — and, where it applies to us, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. Gaming records are additionally kept in the manner required by our Alberta gaming licence.
1. Who we are
Winter Cedar Hotel & Casino operates a hotel, restaurant, event venue and licensed casino at 7055 Argyll Road NW, Edmonton, Alberta, T6C 4A5. In this policy “we”, “us” and “Winter Cedar” mean that business, and “you” means anyone who visits wintercedar.com, telephones us, or stays and plays with us.

2. What we collect
Reservation and stay information — the name, telephone number, dates, room preference and payment details you give the front desk when you book by phone or check in at the counter.
Casino information — where the law requires it, identification details and transaction records for guests on the gaming floor. This is collected because our licence obliges us to collect it, not because we choose to.
Recorded imagery — closed-circuit video of public areas of the hotel and the casino floor, kept for security and licence compliance. There are no cameras in guest rooms.
Telephone records — calls to the front desk may be recorded for training and dispute resolution. You are told at the start of the call when a line is recorded.
Website information — the small amount described in our . We do not run advertising networks, analytics products or third-party tracking pixels on this site.
3. Why we use it
We use your information to hold and honour your booking, to take payment, to answer the questions you call us with, to keep the property and the gaming floor safe, and to satisfy the record-keeping duties that come with an Alberta gaming licence and with hotel and tax legislation. We do not sell personal information and we do not rent our guest list to anyone.
4. Consent
Under PIPA we need your consent to collect, use or disclose personal information, except where the Act allows otherwise. When you telephone us to make a booking, the information you give us for that booking is collected with your consent for that purpose. You may withdraw consent at any time by calling us, subject to reasonable notice and to any records we are legally required to keep.
5. Who else sees it
We share personal information only with service providers who need it to do a job for us — our payment processor, our reservation software vendor and our accountants — and only to the extent that job requires. Those providers are bound to protect it and may not use it for their own purposes. We also disclose information where a court, the police, or the Alberta gaming regulator lawfully require it.
Some of our service providers process data outside Alberta. Where that happens the information remains subject to this policy and to the laws of the country where it is held.
6. How long we keep it
Reservation and billing records are kept for seven years to meet tax and audit requirements. Security video is overwritten on a rolling cycle, usually within thirty days, unless it has been retained for an active investigation. Gaming records are kept for the period our licence specifies. Anything we no longer need is destroyed or anonymised.
7. How we protect it
Guest records sit on access-controlled systems, paper records are locked, payment card data is handled on PCI-compliant terminals, and staff receive privacy training before they are given access to guest information. No system is perfect, but we take the safeguards PIPA calls reasonable for the sensitivity of what we hold.
8. Your rights
You may ask what personal information we hold about you and how it has been used or disclosed.
You may ask us to correct anything inaccurate.
You may withdraw consent to a future use.
You may complain to us first and, if you are not satisfied, to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

9. Age
The casino floor is restricted to guests aged 18 and over and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 through this website. Hotel bookings must be made by an adult.
10. Changes
If this policy changes we post the new version here and update the date at the top. Material changes are also mentioned at the front desk.
